About Abdalla Al-Bayyari

Abdalla Al-Bayyari

Abdullah Al-Bayari is a Palestinian researcher, writer, academic, and art curator. He works at the Institute for Palestine Studies and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Palestine Studies.

His research interests intersect with critical geography, cultural studies, and urban, border, and mobility studies, with a particular focus on the relationships between space, the body, and power in colonial and postcolonial contexts, especially in Palestine and the Arab region. His work examines how space is produced, governed, and reshaped through urban planning, infrastructure, borders, and mapping, as well as the social and political consequences of these processes.

He also explores urbanicide, ruins and voids, counter-cartography, and the relationship between the physical destruction of cities, the erasure of memory, and the dismantling of the conditions that sustain urban life. Alongside his academic research, he publishes essays and studies in cultural platforms and specialised journals, and participates in conferences, research workshops, and interdisciplinary artistic and research projects.

His practice brings together critical theory, spatial analysis, and cultural writing, with a particular interest in developing modes of inquiry grounded in the everyday experience of place. Through this work, he investigates the relationships between geography, power, and memory, as well as ways of representing experiences subjected to erasure or marginalisation in colonial contexts.
