Countering Cartography

Countering Cartography | ضد الخرائط
A research and art project that examines the role of maps in obscuring the social construction of place, situating cartographic practices within struggles between dominant powers and the resulting erasure of social and human knowledge associated with place and geography. Through interdisciplinary historical approaches, the researchers explore visual and artistic perspectives on producing counter-maps.
The introductory talk is followed by a workshop proposing practices for deconstructing maps and developing emancipatory traditions of spatial knowledge production through art-based research and collaborative work. The workshop invites visual artists, writers, and researchers to work in groups to produce works to be shared with the public at a later stage.
